Duties Job Summary: District Nurse for both Anne M. Jeans Elementary School and Burr Ridge Middle School to provide basic physical/health care for students. The successful candidate will be a health resources for students and the administration. The applicant will have a demonstrated ability to contribute positively to the school climate and communicate with staff and parents. The District Nurse coordinates the school health delivery of services to students and serves as the health resource to staff members in order to enhance the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being in the school community. The school nurse duties are to be performed in accordance with standards of professional school nurse practice, state board of education policies and procedures and the State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act. Performance Responsibilities * Participates in the development of Health Office procedures. * Monitors monthly attendance and meets with the building administrator to follow-up on students who have been absent or tardy >10% of the school year. * Maintains compliance as required by the Illinois School Code and Illinois Department of Public Health for physical examination and immunization records. * Performs mandated vision and hearing screenings and provides follow up for deficiencies. * Maintains, uses, and communicates student information appropriately regarding health conditions, restrictions, and immunization records. * Develops appropriate procedures for administration, storage, and documentation of medication prescribed by physicians. * Monitors the effectiveness of medication and communicates medication related concerns to parents/guardians and to the prescribing physician. * Completes and maintains reports of accidents/incidents for students and staff. * Provides and/or delegates services including first aid, care for ill students, and emergency care to students and staff; identifies health problems; makes referrals for diagnosis and treatment; maintains appropriate documentation. * Directs, per district policy, the procedures set forth in the Rules and Regulations for the Control of Communicable Diseases as issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health. * Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter. * Identifies resources and information about services in the community and provides this information to staff and parents. * Maintains up to date cumulative health records on all students. * Implements emergency care procedures for students and staff members. * Makes home visits as needed or requested. * Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program. * Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students. * Prepares and submits reports for the superintendent, state and local board of health. * Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious disease. * Advises teacher on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects. * Advises and consults with teachers on health matters. * Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools. * Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum. * Participates in in-service training program. * Serves as a member of pupil-personnel service team. Obtains health histories and attends staffings. * May participate in team teaching and classroom demonstration relating to health. * Orient and supervises aides in emergency care, medication, and records. * Supervises Nurse's Aides in attendance procedures, utilizing district technology. * Complies with all insurance documentation/notifications. * Participates in countywide health activities, notifications, and documentation. * Complies with and notifies administrator of board policy and recommended stats and community health requirements. * All other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Superintendent and Special Education Director. Qualifications Qualifications: * State of Illinois Professional Educator License (Certified School Nurse) CSN * Illinois Registered Nurse License: Valid RN License* * Illinois Department of Public Health certified in vision and hearing. * Current CPR/AED Certification. * Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology. Certified School Nurse preferred but will consider RN who has taken the ISBE IEP Course and holds the ISBE IEP designation. * Will consider RN with Bachelor's degree in nursing, education or related field. Salary/Benefits Very Competitive Additional Notes Terms of Employment: * Work Year: School Calendar plus an additional 10 days at contracted rate. * Hours: Full-Time School Day and coordinated after school athletic event medical supervision to be paid at hourly or Over-time rate. * School Calendar: Determined Yearly * Location: Rotated between two district buildings. * Eligible for paid holidays, time-off benefits, and medical/insurance benefits depending upon licensure. * Participates in IMRF or TRS pension depending upon licensure. CSN (or equivelent) will be placed on certified teacher salary schedule as per CBA, maximum placement 10 years and participate in TRS.
