RN Spine Coordinator


Department Overview OHSU Spine Center provides care to patients who have experienced back and neck pain requiring medical or surgical intervention. Diagnostic groups commonly cared for include: general back and neck pain, spinal arthritis, spondylosis, spinal cysts, spinal syrinx, spinal tumor, disc degeneration, herniated disc, myelopathy, radiculopathy, scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal fractures, spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis. Required Qualifications BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date. * ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date. * Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire * Internal ONA applicants: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred * Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License * BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) * BLS must not expire during orientation * Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Department Specific Requirements:The RN Spine Coordinator will provide telephone and face to face nursing care using the nursing process while supporting the treatment management and clinical support to the Spine Center Interdisciplinary team. This position will be responsible for care coordination which includes but not limited to, medical record review, assist with monitoring diagnostic results and patient care progress. * 2 years or more recent experience working with spinal conditions, preferred• Experience working in ambulatory neurosurgery or orthopedic practice, preferred• Experience working with ambulatory telephone triage, preferred• Ambulatory nursing certification from a professional nursing organization, preferredClinical Skills and Duties: • Review daily appointment report to anticipate healthcare needs of patients • Triage walk ins• Wound care• Suture removal • Staple removal• Perform pre- and post-operative calls as needed Preferred Qualifications Accountability:• Provides accurate and timely documentation of care of patients in the patient record (EMR).• Assure proper transfer of patient care and coverage of duties when leaving the clinic.• Initiate appropriate interactions with patients, providers and other staff regarding any relevant patient care or operational issues.Meetings: • Attend and participate in relevant departmental, clinic, nursing, and patient care meetings.• Assist and actively participate in the ongoing improvement of the clinic.Policies and Procedures:• Implement agreed upon changes in function, policies and procedures.• Establish appropriate patient/clinic flow priorities and follow through to completion.• Participate in the formation, development, implementation, and evaluation of health care plans for patients.• Other duties/projects which are assigned by supervisor and/or Lead Nurse are to be followed through to completion.
