Advanced Practice Nurse, Pediatric Psychiatry

Provides services at the Pediatric and Adolescent Transformative Health (PATH) Clinic. PATH is a 12-member collaborative led by Saint Anthony and will provide an innovative structure for a Behavioral Health Home (BHH) serving children, adolescents, and families on the west and southwest sides of Chicago. # Position Purpose: To enhance the quality of patient care within the PATH outpatient consultation service through the provision of psychotherapy, psycho-education and medication management for pediatric patients. # # Essential Functions: Assesses the mental health needs of referred pediatric patients, prescribing appropriate psychotropic medications and behavioral Treatment Plans. Function within the scope-of- practice of an Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner as granted by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Maintains collaborative agreement with identified psychiatrist. Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the pediatric psychiatric patient population, including the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, to provide the care needed, and to develop a discharge plan. Participates in patient care coordination with medical/nursing staff and outside providers, assists in formulating the treatment plan along with the clinical team to include clinical updates, discharge planning and family meetings. Documents in a timely, accurate and concise manner, using proper terminology, on department and forms, adhere to established guidelines. Utilizes teaching/learning principles coupled with an expert clinical knowledge base to provide education to staff, patients and their families. Conducts family counseling sessions as appropriate. Works collaboratively with third party payers, managed care companies or other contracted concerns to ensure quality patient care is maintained and managed with effectiveness and efficiency. Participates in Performance Improvement activities for the department, actively seeking to promote#optimum patient care through participation in designated activities for improved performance, outcome measures and patient satisfaction. Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; report to Unit Manager, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Perform other related duties as required. # General Job Requirements: Master#s Degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Focus on Pediatric Psychiatric Mental Health Preferred Valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the state of Illinois Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist in the respective specialty area Prior experience working in pediatrics Two years of experience in the mental health field preferred Bilingual in English/Spanish Preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills. BCLS certification Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills Good critical thinking skills: ability to assess, evaluate and teach. Flexible with a working knowledge of all areas of medicine.
