Title: Public Health Nurse State Role Title: Registered Nurse I Hiring Range: $61,262.00-$69,911.00 Pay Band: 4 Agency: Virginia Department of Health Location: VIRGINIA BEACH HQ Agency Website: vdh.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Virginia Beach Health Department is seeking TWO experienced RNs that have knowledge of screening adults and children for services. RN's who have done assessments for Home Health services would be successful in this role. This is a state program that provides nursing home screenings for both children and adults seeking specific DMAS services to care for their family member. Bilingual is preferred but not required. This position offers autonomy as it is done both in the field and the office to ensure you are meeting the required time regulations for completion and submission of screenings. The hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Occasionally you will be asked to assist with public health emergencies such as sheltering in storms, providing immunizations at mass events, supporting other districts if available or working on a weekend at outreach events to share our programs and activities to the community. Independently provides professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools and other community or congregate care settings. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. Participates in public health emergencies and community health assessments. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. Minimum Qualifications * Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state. If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing. Requires BLS certification. Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.* * Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities * Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique * Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public * Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management * May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required * Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR Additional Considerations * Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion * Experience working with senior adult population and/or children with disabilities * Experience completing Uniform Assessment Instruments (UAI) * Bilingual in Spanish and English Special Instructions You will be provided a confirmation of receipt when your application and/or résumé is submitted successfully.
