POSITION SUMMARY: Assists the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Assures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.# Assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program. Certification as a Certified Surgical Technician is required.# Candidates without certification must obtain certification within 90 days of hire. # Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role. COMPETENCIES: Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Possesses basic computer skills. Demonstrates autonomous practice, consistent with evidence-based standards.# Pursues personal and professional growth and development.# Serves as a professional role model and mentor. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients served. Demonstrates ability to efficiently and effectively perform in the scrub role for surgical and invasive procedures, under the direction of an RN. In collaboration with surgical team, participates in activities to accomplish efficient room turnover including, cleaning of floor and furniture, removal of used equipment supplies instrumentation, providing appropriate equipment for next procedure. In collaboration with RN, demonstrates appropriate identification, handling, and processing of specimens. Demonstrates knowledge of and assures maintenance of aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure; identifies and communicates, to surgical team, any breaks in technique and assists with corrective actions. #Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and other members of the health care team.
