Nurse Tech/Phlebotomist I (Outpatient)

Kennedy Krieger Institute offers more than 55 outpatient clinics, home and community programs, education, research, pediatric neurobehavioral and rehabilitation/feeding inpatient units and a day hospital. This position is 40 hours per week, working Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30pp in 801, 1741 (CASSI), and Columbia. Travel is required Benefits You Will Receive * · $10,500/year tuition advancement/reimbursement for employees earning undergrad and graduate degrees (pro-rated for 16-39 hours/week) * · 50% college tuition grant for dependents of eligible employees budgeted 30-40 hours per week up to $32,000/year * · Student loan repayment for employees budgeted 30-40 hours per week ($100 per month up to $10,500) * · Relocation assistance * · Medical, Dental, Vision (active the month after you attend HR) most places make you wait 3-6 months) * · Enhanced Mental Health Benefits * · 401K Automatic 3% employer-funded "base contribution" with additional 1.5%-3% based on years of service * · Sick and Vacation accrual upon first day of work * · Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (Child Care Spending Account) * $2,000 for each eligible child through the age of 6; $600 for each child age 7-10 * · Free secure and monitored parking Responsibilities * · Provides phlebotomy services for designated site including transporting specimen to appropriate lab as needed and obtaining daily results of specimens obtained. * · Checks orders for appropriate specimens to be obtained. * · Completes lab slips accurately when necessary and/or checks accuracy of slip. * · Identifies and verifies the appropriate patient for specimen collection and collects specimen using proper technique and standard precautions. * · Prints specimen labels (computerized and addressograph), labels, and prepares specimen accurately. * · Obtains and records weights, heights, vital signs, and head circumference. * · Assists with examinations, treatments, and procedures performed in the Outpatient Department. * · Monitors and maintains phlebotomy supplies. * · Prepares exam and triage rooms prior to the start of clinic and between each patient and escorts patient/family to assigned exam room. * · Monitors the expirations dates on the general medical supplies. * · Cleans toys according to Kennedy Krieger Institute infection control guidelines Qualifications * Current national certification in Phlebotomy required. * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification required. * Current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate through Maryland Board of Nursing required EDUCATION * High School Graduate or equivalent required. EXPERIENCE: * Minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience required. * Minimum of one year of pediatric experience preferred.
