Overview Yale New Haven Hospital is seeking dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurses to join our dynamic team within the Medicine Service Line. As a Registered Nurse in our hospital, you will have the opportunity to work in various specialized areas, each offering unique challenges and opportunities for professional growth. For example, our Medicine to MICU/SDU Pathway Program offers professional development opportunities for Nurses who aspire to be Critical Care Nurses in YNHH's Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Step-Down Unit (SDU). As part of this program, Nurses engage in several learning and shadow experiences that prepare them for seamless transitions into critical care. Specialty Care Our service line offers specialty units with dedicated teams catering to our diverse medicine populations, including: * Renal specialty units * Infectious disease unit * Acute care for older adults * Palliative care unit * Observation units * Critical care units * Progressive pulmonary units Skills Working in medicine services, you can develop comprehensive, highly valued healthcare skills. This diverse skill set will enhance your professional profile and equip you to provide the best possible care to our patients. These skills may include, but are not limited to: * tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, blood transfusions, central line maintenance, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, administration of continuous infusions, phlebotomy, EKG, wound irrigation, wound care management, restraint care, utilization of warming devices, urinary catheter maintenance, wound vac therapy, pain management pumps, oxygen therapy, Bipap management, ventilators, brace applications, and care for a variety of access devices Qualifications * Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Connecticut * BLS certification; ACLS certification preferred for certain areas * Strong communication and teamwork skills * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment * Commitment to providing high-quality patient care Additional Information Nurse Residency Program: Newly-licensed nurses, hired full or part-time, within 1 year of graduation and/or less than 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse will participate in the YNHHS Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program. This one-year Nurse Residency Program was developed by the Chief Nursing Officers of the University Health System Consortium (UHC), now Vizient, and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) for new graduate nurses. Nurse Residents participate in monthly sessions with their cohort designed to assist in the transition from nursing student to acute care professional nurse. The transition experience has an emphasis on the development of clinical and leadership skills. The Yale New Haven Health Nurse Residency Program will: * Support the transition from academia to professional nursing practice * Establish a professional nursing career pathway * Promote retention of clinical nurses * Enhance patient outcomes * Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice * Develop clinical skills and professional competencies Awards: With great pride, Medicine services have had remarkable achievements and garnered numerous accolades. We are honored to have received prestigious awards, such as: * PRISM, (Premier Recognition in the Specialty of Med-Surg), is the first of its kind to honor medical-surgical nursing units in the United States and internationally. It is co-sponsored by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN), and the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB). Medicine Services at YNHH is the first to receive this award in Connecticut.
