Duties * Physical ability to perform the duties required of a nurse practicing in a school setting, such as ability to physically move about the school building, going up and down several flights of stairs, ability to lift and position students (30-80 pounds) if assistance is needed, responding to medical emergencies, and treating patients on the ground * Assist with nursing duties including, but not limited to: medication administration, attending to minor illness and injuries, promoting wellness and safety of students. * Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. * Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer. * Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. * Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safely within the LPN scope of practice. * Identifies, monitors, and manages students with chronic disease and disabilities, and documents the services provided in accordance with orders and care plan. * Provides emergency crisis nursing care for physically and/or psychologically ill and injured students and staff . * Maintains communicable disease prevention and control through education, policy and enforcement. * Maintains thorough and comprehensive health-related reports, monthly reports, and emergency reports, and ensures compliance with policies and regulations. * Maintains required certifications and licenses; attend training as required. * Identifies/monitors health issues, and consults with the District RN as needed. * Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator and/or registered nurse. * Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. Qualifications Registered RN (registered nurse) or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) with an active license.
