It’s a great hospital when it has staff. It can be super busy but that makes the day go by quickly.

Ratios were 1:6. The medsurg floor I was on had more total care patients than anything. It was basically nursing home overflow. The CNA help was bare minimum. There were more that were unhelpful than those that work; making the workload extremely heavy. The unit was someone cliquey and there was definitely favoritism being played. Definitely a one and done.

During my time there I witnessed a general culture of complacency and a systematic breakdown in all areas of this facility. Equipment that was falling apart, staff that appeared to be burn out, managers that had a less than professional manner, and ancillary staff that were severely short staff, therefore all of the responsibilities fell on nursing. I know that's why they need travelers but this by far the was the worst I've experienced.  The charting is exorbitant and most of the time inaccurate because things were charted that were not done but are required to be charted. Very uncomfortable work environment! I met some really great people there, but the answer to every concern voiced by anyone was "welcome to Baptist  South". Think before you go, you will not be supported and you have to be prepared to do total care other than vital signs and blood sugars most shifts. The schedule is good, but you float constantly. And hardly ever to the same floor. I never write these reviews but transparency is needed here. The more you know. Good luck on your travels.

Very Unpleasant Experience

I am speaking from OR perspective. The place is very toxic and disorganized. The worst so far among the hospitals I’ve ever worked before, and never planning to go back there ever again. Pick lists are out of date, supplies and instruments are scattered, some of the staff there (esp the old ones) are notorious to travelers and management is unsupportive.

Terrible hospital, Stay away!

Med surg is spread over several units/ specialties, some are ok, some are not. 5N is especially bad,  they claim med surg, but it's more like a step down unit... with 6:1 ratios! The techs are terrible! There is a few that are decent,  but most of them will LITERALLY sleep for hours then get mad when you ask them to do something. The manager is aware but does nothing.  AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Risk to your license/ unsafe

Minimal tech support who are CNA trained. Lack of teamwork.
