This hospital has around 15 operating rooms but half of them are used as storage dumping grounds for old equipment and furniture. They most likely get funding for travelers to accommodate 15 operating rooms but only use half the OR’s which is very shady. The managers all hangout in a side room near the locker rooms and do not do their jobs, they are milking the clock and it’s a free for all. Everyday there was about 2 to 3 surgical techs and 2 to 3 nurses per operating room which is extreme overkill. The doctors do not have private practices and they are employees of the hospital system so they are too poor to afford to have PA’s. They use travel techs to hold retractors and camera scopes to compensate for this which makes zero sense since travelers are more expensive to hire than having staff PA’s and first assists. There are too many nurses and techs so when it gets slow you will most likely be flexed off or you will have to wander around and look busy to avoid being flexed. This made the experience very poor in my opinion as a traveler. To add insult to injury this tiny town of Lubbock has no other opportunities for extra shifts through per diem companies such as Medely. They also lowered the weekly pay for travelers which made it an easy decision to not extend here. Be very cautious with this hospital. You have been warned!
