Incredibly rural ER. Only 3 nurses in building overnights, including you. As ER RN/House Supervisor, you are responsible for registering, triaging, calling provider to come in (sometimes 30 min away) taking orders over the phone, then putting orders into computer while calling in lab and rad techs. If there’s pts on the floor the other nurses are not able to come help. However, you are still responsible for helping if they need meds from Pharmacy or a pt crashes on the MS unit. When Provider arrives to see pt, you have to put all orders in as verbal. They do NOT place electronic orders, you do. If a pt is admitted, they write orders…that nursing then puts into their EMR, called Thrive. I think it’s only fair to let others know this is a place you have to have experience to go to & know how to work in a CAH.
