Ratios on PCU are fine. Not enough support staff on nights but techs are still great. Not much overtime. So if you’re from out of town just fyi there is not much to do. Supervisor is good at getting back with questions quick. Majority of nurses are good to get along with. Not enough snacks for patients. No evs available at night.

PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Worked a couple of contracts at Hays Med. Training is important to them and helpful to an incoming nurse. The staff is fantastic and supportive. Made a lot of good friends out there. I really liked the physicians that I worked with. The town has plenty of good places to eat and there is enough to do on days off. Rates dropped so never re-signed however may consider in the future. The work on med surge is fine but there are times that the beds barely cool off and the post ops keep coming to warm them back up. This makes for crowded shift. Overall, very good experience at Hays.

Can get a little crazy(busy) at times, however staff is great and supportive

Management doesn’t not appreciate travelers. Was constantly trying to schedule outside of contract, and even tried to not pay overtime. The entire hospital is full of staff employees that are miserable at their jobs due to lacking from management.

      <p>American Traveler is seeking an experienced PCU RN with ACLS, BLS, and Meditech experience for a Level III Trauma center assignment.</p>
      
            <h2>Responsibilities</h2>
            <ul><li>Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of an acute care hospital</li><li>Level 3 Trauma center setting</li><li>Day shifts, 4x12-hour shifts per week (7:00–19:00)</li><li>Patient ratio of 1:4–5</li><li>Weekend rotation required</li><li>Floating to units within scope as needed</li><li>Locals accepted within a 60-mile radius</li><li>Meditech charting experience required</li><li>First-time travelers are welcome to apply</li><li>Any requested time off must be approved and documented prior to assignment start</li><li>Scrub color is flexible, except for OR/L&amp;D/Cath Lab where scrubs are provided</li><li>Free parking is available onsite</li><li>No block scheduling greater than three or four shifts</li></ul>
          
      <h2>Requirements</h2>
      <ul><li>Active KS or compact RN license required</li><li>Minimum 1 year of recent PCU RN experience with IV start proficiency</li><li>Certifications required: ACLS and BLS</li><li>Experience with Meditech EMR required</li><li>Two professional references must be provided</li><li>Copy of driver's license and Social Security Number required for consideration</li><li>Pending licenses not accepted</li></ul>
