Acuity was 4:1, Select bought them out and they push 5 : 1 which is very heavy because of they type of pts they take.    They went from paper to a very old version of Epic which makes charting take twice as long.  Select buying out Acuity was a shame.  It used to be a great place to work.  There were a lot of people who left because they felt their license was not safe.

Overall Helen Simpson is a fair Rehabilitation hospital. It’s better than most I’ve worked at. Ratios are 6-8/nurse. So occasionally overwhelming on the days that you have 7 patients and get an admission. Schedule is every other weekend. Management is reasonable and scheduling flexible as long as you get to them in advance. Coworkers are kind, and helpful for the most part. Helen Simpson doesn’t take severely heavy acute patients, so this helps when you have those higher ratios.

I loved my coworkers. The pay was great. The patient to nurse ratio was usually 8:1 with one Cna who may have up to 13 rehab patients. Plus admissions, discharges, patients with IV's, wounds, trachs, peg tubes, etc.  Therefore, as an RN you find yourself doing a lot of aid work and feeling rushed with your own assessments, documentaion, and trying to squeeze in additional job duties and treatments when you can.  I found that to be exhausting and stressful. I also felt unsupported by Management (who are RN''s) on days when the nursing staff were obviously overwhelmed with their assignments. There were days where I had 9 patients who had a higher level of acuity and Management hid in the office rather than take over charge nurse responsibilities and have the charge nurse provide direct care, even if for a few hours. Which I felt would have been the obvious solution in those moments. Again, I loved the floor nurses and cnas. We worked together and encouraged one another. They have a great core set of nursing employees. They have great PT/OT staff as well.
