I cancelled my contract at Henry Ford Rochester Hospital as an ICU travel nurse. This decision is due to an unexpected schedule change made to my posted holiday workdays. My original schedule was posted 2–3 weeks in advance, and I had already made personal plans based on that schedule. However, the ICU manager later changed it due to staffing issues. I expressed that I was unable to accommodate the new schedule, but my request to maintain the original one was declined. When I brought this concern to the Agency Nurse Manager, I was informed that they reserve the right to change schedules even after posting them. I found this approach unfair, especially as I was made to feel responsible for covering shifts related to staffing shortages caused by other travel nurses cancelling their contracts. This situation has placed me in a difficult and inequitable position, leading me to make the decision to cancel my own contract as well. I have worked at another Henry Ford facility and have never experienced schedule changes being made without mutual agreement, which further contributed to my concern.
