Kaiser wants travelers take 4 patients while their staff takes 3. While it would make more sense during Covid while compensation was higher, now you make like 20 bucks less per hour than staff

The CA state laws are obviously great for staffing and ratios, we always got our hour and 15 min breaks covered by the charge nurse (with no patients) or the breaker (RN), most people would take a nap at night. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Some nights I would have two patients on the tele floor, but usually 3. The Kaiser ratios they try to go by is one less than the state law, which for me coming from a state with no laws regarding this is amazing.

Some staff get away with being lazy while others get talked to for nothing. Otherwise, they’ve always paid better than the other hospitals in SD, always in ratio, charge nurse and break nurses, and 90% of staff are very friendly and welcoming. Night shift has to hold patients overnight more lately, never in years past. They do mostly general, Ortho, urology, plastics-with a side of IR pre/post. You stay busy the whole day.

As an ICU RN they constantly float you  constantly

Cardiac Cath Lab

The work environment overall is excellent! Plenty of resources and nurse friendly. The only downside is getting floated at 11:00PM/AM everyday.

Patient ratios are the only positive regarding work environment.

Do you like to wonder what location out of 6 facilities or what shift you will work every few weeks? Do you like having your days off split up and not together all the time? Then come on down to Kaiser! In all honesty San Diego is an amazing city. Co workers were mostly great but they have a big problem with employees calling out often and then leaving others short handed. Was switched constantly from days to nights and it was extremely difficult for me to get good sleep. Facility was clean and modern and equipment was very good.
