Pros
Not busy less then 10 patients a day, lots of free time. Most of the staff is very kind. Kind community, slow paced.
Cons
Cost of living on island is highest anywhere in Hawaii. A block of cream cheese will cost you $7 as of 2025. The price of all your other groceries are just as high. "Provided" housing doesn't mean free. You will be charged between $800-1280 and month for a studio or a shared home with no AC. Also if you are terminated you have 24 hours to move out and hotels cost hundreds a night on the island. There are nurses who will smile to your face and report lies to management, behind your back. And management does no investigation. You can be fired 1 hour after they receive an email for another nurse with claims. Claims that can be proven false if investigated. There is no extra staff to fill unanticipated wholes in staffing. It only takes 1 nurse to be absent to cause problems.. Nurses have worked 18 hour shifts to provide coverage until another nurse could arrive, who will also work 18 hours. Management is very impulsive and poor communication. Their poor communication is expected to be tolerated by the traveler, lacking mutual respect. There is nothing to do on the island. It has a beach you can swim at, 8 miles from town. A cat sanctuary that is nice. And lots of hiking. A rental car is $200/day. So you will need to pay $20 each way for a taxi ride to the beach. Or if you want off island $70 ferry one way to Maui. And then additional Uber fees just to get around. Only 1 nurse on at night and some days, in ED. No additional support staff and the doctor needs to be called to attend patients.
