Pros
Extremely travel friendly. The people who work in the ED at LBJ are some of the nicest people I have ever and will ever have the privilege of working with.
Cons
There is paper charting and things are done a little differently there but if you have an open mind and are there to help then you will be fine!

Pros
Beautiful island, work with many different people from all over the world, families help care for their loved ones.
Cons
Very old school. You will be your own pharmacist mixing all meds. Very young population with obesity related health issues. Local staff sits in break rooms eating all day or literally hiding in closets. They are paid very little although they live with extended families in their villages with very little overhead costs so I guess that’s the trade off. HR was trying to find out from me how much I was being paid within 30 of leaving the airport. The locals know the American travelers are getting paid well due to the advertising and post on social media about how they should be making that money. They don’t understand the sacrifices travel nurses make to come help them. Most places don’t have water heaters so know you may be taking cold showers. It’s a cultural shock for sure. Business hours for businesses over there are just a suggestion. Be careful with taxi services. They are sketch and will try to scam money from you. Rental vehicles are about $100/day. Bus system is unpredictable and doesn’t run late and very little on weekends. Never been more depressed on a contract than here. Stray dogs are a huge issue and they get into the hospital. Chickens too. Locals don’t take care of the pet population and the dogs are starving to death. It’s a very sad place. Be prepared that there is very little food options. And McDonald’s is a hang out. Will take at least 30 minutes to get to order in the drive through. It’s definitely an experience you won’t forget!
