I worked in surgery. I can say that the staff and Nurse managers are amazing people! The director of surgical services is also over just about all specialty services and seems to have unrealistic expectations. She doesn’t make any effort to even acknowledge her own staff by name. It’s quite unfortunate because this team busts their butts daily with little to no appreciation from admin. Surgery is where a hospital’s bread is buttered. These people deserve AT LEAST a good morning! I found her nothing less than pompous and rude!

As OB we have to float a lot if our census is low. I floated 8 of my first 12 shifts

It was a dangerous environment , the nurses were over worked and making mistakes that cost people lives . I’ve seen more people die here than any other assignment

<h3>Assignment Overview</h3><ul><li>Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs</li><li>Hours: 36 hrs/wk</li><li>Start Date: Sep 7, 2026</li><li>Length: 13 weeks</li><li>Openings: 1</li></ul><h3>Description</h3><p>American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Labor &amp; Delivery (LDRP) position requiring 2+ years of L&amp;D experience and a Maine or compact RN license.</p><h3>Details</h3><ul><li>Work in the OB unit of a 64-bed hospital with a Level III Nursery</li><li>Unit averages 200 births per year with 4 Labor and 4 Postpartum beds</li><li>LDRP model providing care across Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum/Couplet phases including well-baby care</li><li>Low-risk patient population; high-risk patients are transferred out for delivery</li><li>Patient conditions include post-partum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, and feeders/growers</li><li>Unit also receives Med/Surg overflow patients for low-acuity needs such as IV antibiotics, swing bed, or rehab (no infectious or telemetry patients)</li><li>Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 Laboring, 1:1 Active Labor, 1:3-4 Couplets, and 1:2-3 Med/Surg</li><li>Rooming-in model with no dedicated Nursery or Nursery RN</li><li>Shift schedule is 7P-7A, 12-hour nights, 36 hours per week</li><li>Weekend rotation is every other weekend with no on-call requirements</li><li>Floating may be required to Med/Surg or ED for task-only assignments (no patient assignment taken)</li><li>Uses Cerner EMR</li></ul><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>Active RN license (Maine or Compact)</li><li>Minimum 2 years of Labor &amp; Delivery experience required</li><li>First-time travelers considered only with at least 3 years of L&amp;D experience</li><li>Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring</li><li>STABLE certification must be completed within 30 days of start</li><li>Experience with all phases of LDRP care and well-baby care required</li><li>Skills required include shoulder dystocia management, epidural management, nitrous administration, intrathecal spinal analgesia, and neonatal care during C-sections (catching babies only, not circulating)</li><li>Newborn care skills required including vital signs, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia management, bilirubin babies, and NAS babies</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3><ul><li>Care team includes a charge nurse, midwife (primary caregiver), on-call OB, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 hospitalist support</li><li>Unit is staffed with at least 2 nurses overnight, sometimes 3</li><li>HUC support available 4 days per week; no dedicated CNA support</li><li>Orientation includes general hospital orientation plus 1 shift on the unit</li><li>Holiday coverage required on a rotating every-other-holiday basis</li><li>Time off requests require manager approval</li><li>Scrubs may be any professional color; procedural scrubs provided for OR use only</li><li>Free parking is available</li><li>Flu vaccination required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only considered and subject to facility approval</li></ul>
