The staff are so sweet and helpful. Although work load could be better it’s good to have other staff that helps out.

Culture is very toxic and disorganized, leadership has no professionalism but will smile and wave to present a false narrative on introduction. When things go bad expect to be blamed and not protected or understood. Expect unreasonable expectations and to be thrown under the bus to save a highly favored coworker by management. Expect little direction but high accountability..expect disrespect and thankless feedback. Hospital treats you as an RN license and not a person.  You are floated daily to wherever they need a nurse, and you are not oriented or trained in the environment.  Staff members are mostly new grads with no experience, or most are less than 2 years.  Team work is dependent upon who you work with.  Most of the culture is that you are on your own.

CVICU

Generally this hospital is unsafe. Working med/surg with 6-7 pts every shift. Lucky if we had 2 cnas for 36 bed unit. Floated quite alot and most floors were similar. Staff were really nice. Management was constantly shifting/ lack of consistency. I stayed my whole 13 wk assignment, but I would not take another assignment in the future.

Hematology / Oncology

The unit I was working on is a very busy unit and the nurses had 6+ patients. There was rarely a patient care tech so the nurses had to do their own vitals signs and patient care tech duties on mostly total care patients. In addition, many nights they were short staff on respiratory therapists so the nurses had to administer breathing treatments as well. So in actuality, the nurses were responsible for the workload of three healthcare professionals. Also, the charge nurses were required to take a full team of six patients so they were also doing the work of three healthcare professionals to keep on THEIR patients safe so they were not available as a resource to the staff. 

Also most of the charge nurses were new nurses with less than a year of experience and had no true leadership skills. The assignments were being made with no regard to acuity or workflow. Sometimes the nurses had to wait for more than an hour for the assignment to me made before we could even begin our day because the charge nurse had not had time to stop and make the assignment for the oncoming shift or staff just didn’t show up and the charge nurse had to redo the assignment. It was not uncommon for me to have patients on 4 different halls or to have to give report to three or four different nurses in the morning. I often had 3 admissions back to back, as well. I even had a patient brought to a room for admission with no report called and no notification that the patient arrived on the unit, only realizing that the patient was there 2 hours after they arrived on the unit because I happen to be walking by the room and heard the IV pump beeping. 

The unit that I was working on does not have a dedicated manager (just an acting director that is covering multiple units) and he was not in any way holding the staff accountable so you had nurses coming in over an hour late on a regular basis, causing multiple nurses from the previous shift to have to stay over because there was no one to take report on their patients. On the rare occasion that you did have one PCT for the entire unit, they were assigned to take care of each nurse's first two patients but most times they only did the vital signs and then were nowhere to be found for hours on end. Or they could be found sleeping in the break room while the nurses are struggling to do the work of 3 people. It was complete chaos. The only saving grace for the entire experience was the teamwork of the nursing staff.

The most unsafe NICU I’ve ever worked in. Bad patient ratios (sometimes 5 babies in an assignment), limited resources (one charge RN on unit for 80+ patients), providers were rude and micro managed nursing care, poor NICU policies, etc. Staff RNs were so kind & helped when they were able.

An abusive place to work. Employees are overworked and underpaid. The only important thing is the productivity/reimbursement for services rendered. Keep looking..you deserve so much better!
