I will start by saying I have been a therapist for more than 10 years so I am very knowledgeable about how a respiratory department should operate. There was one good thing about this department. And that was the people I worked with. I worked with great coworkers who were willing to help when they were able. And it’s all downhill from there. Staffing is highly erratic partially because they do not bother to count work units and divide equally. So one person may have 2 patients and another in the same area may have 15 patients. And the other part, because they can’t keep staff and they are pushing to reduce whatever travelers they have there to help. This results in a very hectic and sometimes unsafe situation in my opinion. People with minimal experience with pediatric patients are being pushed into PICU despite the fact that they may have never worked with pets Next, they are sorely lacking equipment and you are often times left to try to “MacGyver” things to make them work. There is a lack of equipment and the equipment you do have often doesn’t work. And even if you call the manager on call it likely won’t be resolved quickly Regarding the management team, I have never worked any where that you could not reach a member of management at all times. Not to mention that some of the on call managers have not actually worked in this hospital in several years and therefore do not have a clue what the current situation is. If you have an issue it is very difficult to get a response to email, texts, or phone calls. Your best bet is catching them while they are in the office. There is one member of management that is very rude and disrespectful to the point that it makes the person completely unapproachable. I actually know of employees who have left specifically so they wouldn’t have to deal with the negativity from that person every day. All of this being said, I think this department could be turned around and that with a few changes it could be a great place to work simply because of the positive attitude and relationship between members of the clinical staff.
