The ED here is a tight knit group. They have each others back and work great as a team. Their meditech system is very outdated though & patient ratios combined with patient acuity can be quite scary at times. But you’ll have everyone’s support, including management to endure the storm with!

I came in as a MS/Tele float, this basically means I went to overflow or ED 95% of the time. This also means I have patients in beds in the hallway of the ED 8:1 ratio on days that are sometimes not appropriate for MS/Tele. The “overflow” units right now are just 12 recliners separated by mobile curtains because there aren’t enough beds and they are currently renovating the old overflow unit. I have never received report from the ED or have never been told when I get a new patient or lose a patient until I walk by and suddenly there is someone new in the bed. This is somehow accepted. Providers can be extremely rude, supplies are tough to come by at times. That being said, all the nurses I encountered were very friendly, charge nurses were great resources and very friendly and the staff makes the best of the terrible situation that management has put them in. My agency, Healthtrust has actually been very good to me. I know their contract rates aren’t the best but my per diem rate was good, I make my own hours, scheduling is very smooth, they always paid on time, very responsive. The 2 stars is directed at the hospital system itself and how it is managed by higher ups. I really couldn’t believe that someone in management actually cleared the idea to use a 25x25 waiting room lobby for a whole other unit for 16 patients. It’s 3rd world country-esque. Patient families are horrified and patients are confused because they get told they are going to a room and then they come to that unit. Anyways, just know what you’re signing up for because it’s pretty chaotic at this hospital.

The Med-Surg TCS unit is awful! The staff is good, young but very helpful. The techs were a godsend!!! You will have 8-9 patients every night, which is bad any way you shake it, but if it weren't for the most amazing techs I've ever worked with it would have been IMPOSSIBLE. Charge nurses are ok, helpful but they certainly don't anticipate that you either do or will need help. It sounds strange after having said all that, but I would go back. The helpful staff and techs made a terrible job better, and it's Vegas...

Assignments are unsafe staffing conditions. RN get 8-9 pt ratio  no matter the acuity. Culture is awful depending on what unit you’re on. Pulled daily. Only good thing is pay then they cut your rate by half in the middle of contract.
