When I think about working in Seattle, there’s only one place I’de rather be, UWMC. No facility is perfect and just like UW there are stuffs in this facility that are not nice but this hospital (at least for me) is by far the most frequented venue by any nomad healthcare provider because of its magnet reputation and high standards.

There’s too many hospitals around Seattle but UWMC is right at the TOP!

Best place I worked during Covid, hands down! They took precautions seriously as an institution and the policies reflected it. There was even a dedicated donning/doffing officer anytime there was even one Covid patient on the floor! Unheard of anywhere else by then (early 2022). Welcoming staff to travel RNs and good management.

Working nights with such a flexible and task-completion focused team made this experience truly exceptional. I really appreciated the organization of information in written form from this facility. One of the better experiences I've had traveling even with some inconsistencies on first & second shift with how verbal training with lead techs vs written SOPs that lead to trainees getting written up, or the misunderstanding between shifts of expecting tasks to be done on an off shift when no one has been trained to do those tasks. I was really glad that when I witnessed personnel issues between permanent staff, there was always someone in an upper position who would hear everyone out and try to understand the issue to fix the root cause.

It’s great except the parking is a nightmare, unsafe, and expensive. And you may pay for a permit and then not get a spot when you get there.

Particular about how things are done. Residents treat you less then. They put in orders without communicating what they want, only collaborate with the other residents, have a lot of unnecessary interventions bc of the residents. Rarely work with the attendings or see them. The nurses are good, they’ll wont trust you until you show competence & they’ll want everything done the UWMC way. Overstaffed every shift. Awhonn staffing.

      <p>American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN with strong neuro background willing to circulate cardiac and transplant cases for night shifts in a high-acuity teaching hospital.</p>
      
            <h2>Responsibilities</h2>
            <ul><li>Position is in the Operating Room at a large teaching and Magnet-designated hospital</li><li>Primarily night shift, working 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30</li><li>Patient population includes neuro, transplant, orthopedic sports, minimally invasive, robotics, general, GYN, urology, and plastics cases</li><li>Expect to float within the hospital as needed; no floating to sister hospitals</li><li>Scrubs are provided with any color permitted for OR personnel</li><li>Epic EMR is used; Epic experience preferred but not required</li><li>May be assigned charge duties</li><li>28 OR rooms with an average daily census of 50-75 cases</li><li>Role may include charge nurse responsibilities</li><li>Responsibilities include circulating a variety of surgical cases, with emphasis on neuro, transplant, and willingness to cover other specialties if needed</li><li>Team-oriented environment within a busy, high-acuity academic center</li><li>Orientation sessions are held twice monthly, with Epic module completion during orientation</li><li>Modules must be completed pre-start; facility tracks completion via transcripts</li><li>First-time travelers are accepted for this position</li><li>Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers</li><li>No radius requirement for eligibility</li><li>RTO (requested time off) is restricted to one week max and not allowed during orientation week</li></ul>
          
      <h2>Requirements</h2>
      <ul><li>Active WA or Compact RN license required</li><li>Current BLS certification required</li><li>3-4 years of OR RN experience strongly preferred; minimum of 2 years required</li><li>Strong neuro experience required; willingness to circulate cardiac and transplant cases (cardiac skills not mandatory)</li><li>Experience with multiple service lines such as cardiac and robotics is highly preferred</li><li>Teaching hospital and trauma experience is preferred</li><li>EPIC charting experience is a plus but not required</li><li>Must be fully COVID vaccinated and boosted</li><li>Must submit two references, preferably supervisory or charge, for consideration</li><li>No pending licenses accepted; license must be active at time of submission</li><li>Prior UW staff must be separated from the facility for at least 18 months</li></ul>
