Job Description:

Cardiac Cath Lab RN needed to begin ASAP; 13 week assignment with possible extension; 7:00a-5:30p shift weekdays and some weekends on call; Potentially scheduled for holidays if any fall during assignment

Additional Requirements:

Must have Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience; WV RN license
Cover STEMI call during the week and on the weekend through a rotation

Ratios	The goal for ratios is 1:4; however, they are usually running 1:5. Occasionally could be 1:6

Charge Nurse/House Supervisor	"Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on both day &amp; night shift 
Also has a Clinical Assistant who works 2, 12's (on the floor w/ a patient assignment) &amp; 2, 8's in the office."
Nurse Aides	Usually have 2-3 CNA's w/ ratios 1:10-12
Weekend Requirement	"Fri/Sat/Sun are all considered weekend shifts. 
Nights has to work 4 weekend night shifts/4 week schedule. 
Days has to work 4 weekend day shifts/4 week schedule; however, no one on this unit truly works straight days. Anyone who works straight days is required to work a minimum of 3 night shifts/4 week schedule. The 3 night shifts do not have to be on the weekend. The only shift that is considered a straight shift is nights. "
Holidays	Travelers must be flexible if they need them to work holidays; however, they don't usually have to work many holidays as they are typically covered by the perm staff.
Scrub Color	RN's: Navy blue top &amp; bottom, navy scrub jackets, no hoodies
Tele Monitors	Nihon Kohden 
Do nurses read strips?	They have Tele Techs but RN's must be able to ready &amp; interpret their own strips
Drips	RN's must be able to titrate drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, &amp; Heparin. Occasionally Lasix.
Vents	" All respiratory equipment is managed by RT 
(AirVo - high flow, Respironics - Bipap)"
Hospitalist or Intensivist in house	"Hospitalist in-house 24/7 
Intensivist in the ICU 24/7
Also have residence in-house 24/7  "
IV Team	"IV team in-house 24/7 &amp; also have a PICC/Midline team

Shifts	"12's: Must be on the unit ready to go by 6:45 am/pm. Shifts run from 7a - 7p. 
Self-scheduling is allowed as long as the needs of the unit are met. Staff are allowed 4 requested days off per month"
Floating	All staff are required to float as needed into the rotation (Tele or MedSurg) w/ ratios up to 1:6, possibly 1:7 in MedSurg (not common) Also expected to go to Pandemic Unit
Floor specific orientation	 The 1st day is spent with HR for approximately 4 hours, then the remaining 8 hours would be on the unit w/ a preceptor, as well as the 2nd day on the unit w/ a preceptor. After this they will be on their own
Common diagnosis / Types of patients	Chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, Arrhythmias, post pacer, pre/post Caths (manage radial bands &amp; remove but do not pull sheaths), groin checks, any other overflow patients that required intermediate care acuity, they rarely get chest tubes. They also manage patients on Tikosyn therapy.

5E = 48-beds (18 of these use to be observation, low risk CP &amp; mostly medical short stays,  but now all MedSurg)
5T= 22-beds (MedSurg only)
2T = 23-beds (would not float travelers there)"

Tele	Any patient can be on tele. Monitored remotely on the 3rd floor. RN can check the rhythm on the tele pack. Everyone goes through an arrhythmia class for basic knowledge, taking a pre-test &amp; a post-test (this is NOT a pass/fail test).

Drips 	No vasoactive drips - only heparin 
RT/Vents	RT is in-house 24/7 - Could have patients on Intermittent Bipap or High Flow - managed by RT

The clinical assistant starts the schedule then the manager finalizes it. They do allow input from the traveler &amp; would consider block schedules as long as the needs of the  unit are met. "
Floating	"Could be floated to the 4th floor MedSurg, 6th floor Onc w/ MedSurg overflow. 
IF they have tele background &amp; the ability to read strips &amp; titrate drips they could float to tele if they were comfortable with this. would have to titrate drips &amp; read strips if floated) "
Floor specific orientation	1st day w/ staff developer to go over charting, Pyxis, computer, etc. This doesn't take the whole 12 hours, so they come to floor after, for approximately 4 hours, then the next 2 days would be w/ a preceptor, as well as with the DC/Admit RN)
Common diagnosis / Types of patients	5th floor is heavier on medical, lighter on surgical. Get occasional post-ops but no heavy bowels or joints (Ortho goes to the 4th floor). Pre-COVID was stroke unit.  (COVID patients only on 2T)
Additional Notes	"1) They have a lot of resources: wound nurses, diabetic educators, radiology/OR transport, DC/Admit RN during the day, NA's, &amp; UA2's (unit secretary &amp; NA)
2) Must be used to working on a fast paced unit with high turnover. Could have 3 discharges &amp; get 3 new in one shift. 
3) We are going to start running 2 cardiac drips on 5T, Amiodarone and Cardizem. This is only for 5T. 5E side of the 5th floor remains drip free. Drop experience is a major bonus! 

NOTE: Discharges after 7 pm would be the responsibility of the staff RN.
