Description
Job Description
This position involves performing a variety of technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients. Key responsibilities include preparing patients' skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards, maintaining aseptic techniques, and providing comfort and support to patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy. The role also involves transporting patients to and from the operating room, positioning patients according to the type of surgery, and identifying and caring for biological specimens.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies pertinent to the type of case.
- Maintain sterile fields and assist the physician during surgical procedures by passing instruments and sutures as directed.
- Utilize the physician's preference cards when pulling cases and setting up the operating room, ensuring they are up to date.
- Work collaboratively as a team member while caring for patients and participating in team planning and execution.
- Maintain a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices consistently.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
- Maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to sanitation policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate competency in monitoring and controlling the surgical environment.
- Perform assigned patient care responsibilities while accommodating the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient served.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a surgical setting is preferred.
- BLS certification is required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist or LVN/LPN license is required.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with a schedule of five days a week, working eight-hour shifts. Weekend shifts may be required.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
