Description
Unit Description:
The Telemetry Unit is a 22-bed facility specializing in the care of patients with various neurological conditions, including Stroke, TIA, Seizure, and TBI, as well as mixed medical telemetry cases. The unit is typically busy and often at full capacity.
Certifications Required:
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
Patient Ratios:
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 nurse for every 3 to 4 patients.
Electronic Medical Record (EMR):
The unit utilizes Cerner for documentation and record-keeping.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry strips; passing a dysrhythmia exam is required.
- Administer and manage medications per protocols, including titratable drips such as Heparin, Amiodarone, and Cardizem.
- Provide comprehensive care and support to patients undergoing treatment for neurological conditions.
- Perform bedside shift reports and focus on enhancing patient experience while meeting HCAHPS and core measures, especially for stroke care.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience in a telemetry or related specialty is preferred, but first-time travelers are welcomed.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated individuals who are dedicated to their mission and values are highly encouraged to apply.
Shift and Scheduling:
- 12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM.
- Schedules are created approximately 3 weeks in advance with self-scheduling based on seniority and shift trading options.
- Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts across a 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday for Days and Friday/Saturday for Nights).
- Holiday Requirements: Participation in the permanent staff rotation for holidays.
Additional Information:
- Unit has 2 Telemetry Monitor Techs; nurses are not required to read their own telemetry strips but must be competent in interpretation.
- No standby or call requirements; however, floating to Intermediate Care Units or Med/Surg departments may be necessary.
- Navy scrubs are required; scrubs are not provided by the unit.
- Orientation includes 1 shift on the unit to acclimate to the environment and protocols.
