Description
WCS Healthcare is currently seeking an experienced Critical Care Nurse for a contract assignment at a highly respected hospital in New Jersey. This role is ideal for an ICU‑trained RN with strong clinical judgment, rapid assessment skills, and the ability to manage complex, high‑acuity patients.
Job Function:
- Shifts: 12-hour day shifts (7a–7:30p) | Per diem | Minimum 4 shifts/month commitment.
Advanced Critical Care & Monitoring: Manage complex adult and geriatric MICU patients. Interpret dysrhythmias, obtain 12-lead EKGs, and manage advanced monitoring systems including FloTrac/Vigileo, Swan Ganz, and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitors/external ventricular drains (EVD).
Vascular & Renal Management: Care for central lines/PICCs and access/manage ports. Administer blood products, initiate IVs, manage arterial lines, and operate Continuous Veno-Venous Hemofiltration (CVVH/CRRT). Care for kidney transplant and acute/chronic renal failure patients.
Respiratory Care: Care for ventilated patients, manage ventilator settings, perform endotracheal and nasotracheal suctioning, interpret ABGs, and manage BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) systems. Assist with chest tube insertion and removal.
Medication Administration & Titration: Titrate critical cardiac and vasoactive drips. Administer continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockades, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and manage IV insulin protocols.
Specialized Protocols: Implement Target Temperature Management (using Arctic Sun or Zoll systems), utilize Level 1 Rapid Infusers, manage wound vacs, and handle advanced stroke/CVA cases.
Documentation & Floating: Use the EPIC charting system for electronic documentation. Flexibly float to other ICU units, Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units, and Intermediate Care (IMC) units based on facility census and acuity needs.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum Experience: 1.5 years of acute care experience in a MICU or ICU setting. Previous travel experience is required.
- Prior Charge Experience: Preferred but not mandatory.
- Hospital System Rule: Former RWJBarnabas Health staff (full-time or PRN) must be fully separated from the health system for a minimum of 1 year to be eligible.
- Background Check: Open or active background check hits and/or license hits are strictly not accepted.
- License: Active New Jersey State Nursing License or Compact License required at the time of submission.
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. (Stroke and Trauma CEUs are also required; CCRN is not mandatory).
- Per Diem Commitment: Clinicians must be fully committed to working a minimum of 4 shifts per month, with a maximum cap of 2 shifts per week.
- Weekend & Holiday Coverage: Required to work Every Other Weekend (EOW) and designated holidays.
