Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to obstetric patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum periods. Care is delivered in accordance with established nursing standards, hospital policies, and evidence-based practice guidelines.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to respond rapidly to emergent situations, and collaboration with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, pediatric teams, and support staff.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum, and immediate postpartum patients.
Perform maternal and fetal assessments, including continuous electronic fetal monitoring (EFM).
Interpret fetal heart rate tracings and respond appropriately to changes in maternal or fetal status.
Administer medications and IV therapies per physician orders and established protocols.
Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
Provide neonatal stabilization in collaboration with the care team.
Support emergency interventions, including obstetric hemorrhage management and urgent cesarean sections.
Educate patients and families on labor progression, pain management options, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
Accurately document assessments and interventions in the electronic medical record (EPIC experience required).
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes for mother and newborn.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Active and current Registered Nurse license in the State of Rhode Island.
Minimum of 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience.
Current BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
EPIC electronic medical record experience (required).
Preferred Qualifications
Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification.
