Description
Make a real difference as a travel Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in Silver Spring, MD. Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assistant or related program from an accredited educational program.
- Active Maryland PTA license or ability to obtain state licensure prior to start of assignment.
- Current BLS/CPR certification from AHA or ARC required or able to obtain prior to start.
- Experience in outpatient physical therapy required. Experience with musculoskeletal and post-operative patient populations preferred.
- Familiarity with commonly used modalities and equipment in outpatient clinics, including hot/cold modalities, ultrasound, TENS, therapeutic exercise equipment, gait training devices, and wheelchair/orthotic instruction.
- Ability to implement treatment plans and document patient progress following supervising Physical Therapist’s plan of care.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient and employee safety, including safe patient handling and infection control procedures.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills. Prior experience participating in interdisciplinary team conferences preferred.

Standard Job Description

Maintain patient and employee safety by following safety policies, using provided equipment, identifying workplace hazards, and reporting risks promptly. Implement treatment goals, plans, and programs established by the Physical Therapist. Assist with therapeutic interventions including posture training, strengthening, endurance/cardiac conditioning, balance and coordination training, joint mobility, pain relief, and functional skills training. Train patients in locomotion using orthotics, prosthetics, or assistive devices, and demonstrate proper guarding and safety techniques. Use and instruct in modalities such as whirlpools, hot/cold packs, paraffin, TENS, therapeutic pool, ultrasound, iontophoresis, and air splints where applicable. Monitor patient responses and intervene as necessary. Document patient progress, education, and participation. Teach patients and families good body mechanics. Establish and maintain professional, ethical working relationships with patients and staff. Serve as a resource to other disciplines and participate in team conferences and quality improvement projects. Comply with clinic policies, safety, and infection control guidelines. Maintain a clean treatment area and clean equipment between patients. Display professional customer service toward patients, visitors, and staff. Perform other duties as assigned.
