Description
The preferred schedule would be 4/10s with Mondays off however we could do 5/8s. This would mean three early start days beginning at 7:00am and two later-start days that extend until 6:00pm. All appointments are 45 minutes. The position is primarily outpatient-based with a strong emphasis on hand, wrist, and elbow rehabilitation, along with some neurological patient care.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing occupational therapy services to the inpatient and/or outpatient populations of Samaritan Healthcare to include assessment, treatment and care as well as participating in educational instruction with the patients and patients’ families. The Occupational Therapist must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report, behavior and understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process. The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each patient.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Obtains thorough patient, medical/social history and current status information.
2. Evaluates each patient as directed by the ordering physician and develops patient care plans and administers treatments to patients with physical disabilities resulting from injury, disease, or surgery. Re-evaluates and assesses the patient's status and initiates a change in treatment program as needed.
3. Administers therapeutic treatments utilizing physical agents, biomechanical and neurophysiological principles and assistive devices in relieving pain, restoring maximum functions and preventing disability following injury, disease, or surgery.
4. After providing direct patient care, documents all pertinent information, utilizing the electronic medical record, and educates patients and others regarding the treatment plan and procedures.
5. Completes billing procedures for service provided on a daily basis.
6. Understands and uses techniques such as heat, electricity, water, massage, and exercise.
7. Reports include evaluations/re-evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
8. Provides direction to all assisting support staff for occupational therapy patient care.
9. Efficiently organizes the daily workload. Monitors and controls the time management of self and assisting support staff.
10. Monitors the safety and effectiveness of all patient care equipment and the work environment. Immediately reports all deficiencies to Director.
11. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
12. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
13. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
14. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
15. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
16. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Education:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association preferred and approved by the State of Washington Occupational Therapy Examining Committee.
b. Advanced degree or training preferred.
• License:
a. Active Washington state Occupational Therapist license.
• Experience:
a. One year acute care experience preferred.
b. One year of outpatient care experience preferred.
c. Able to evaluate and provide care across the age continuum from infants, toddlers, pre-school, school age, young, to middle-aged adults and geriatric patients.
