Position Overview
The Echo Technologist performs diagnostic echocardiographic examinations on both pediatric and adult patients. This position is responsible for obtaining high-quality cardiac ultrasound images, assisting physicians with diagnostic interpretation, and providing compassionate care to patients throughout the examination.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and experience performing echocardiograms across a variety of patient populations and clinical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform comprehensive transthoracic echocardiograms on pediatric and adult patients.
• Obtain high-quality 2D, M-mode, Doppler, and color-flow Doppler images according to established protocols.
• Perform specialized studies as required, based on physician orders and patient needs.
• Properly position and prepare patients for examinations while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
• Recognize abnormal cardiac anatomy, function, and hemodynamics and appropriately document findings.
• Obtain accurate measurements and ensure complete and technically adequate studies.
• Review images for quality and completeness before submitting studies for physician interpretation.
• Work closely with cardiologists, physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Follow infection-control, safety, and department policies.
• Maintain equipment and report technical problems as needed.
• Provide age-appropriate care and communication for pediatric patients and their families.
• Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and excellent communication with patients and coworkers.
Required Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Sonography program.
• Registered or registry-eligible in cardiac/echocardiography imaging.
• Experience performing adult echocardiography required.
• Pediatric echocardiography experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, pathology, and hemodynamics.
• Ability to independently perform technically accurate echocardiographic studies.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hospital environment with patients of varying acuity.
