Neuro Telemetry RN

Job Type: RN (Registered Nurse) Location: Rockford, Illinois Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week)

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the license application has been initiated
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA only)
• Neuro and telemetry experience
• Negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus)

Unit Details

• Unit: Neuro Telemetry, 23 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Charge nurse: Staffed each shift, free of patients or with a lighter assignment when possible
• Nurse aides/patient care techs: Typically 7-13 patients each
• Respiratory equipment: No ventilators. CPAP/BiPAP at night and nasal cannula. RNs do not manage this equipment beyond troubleshooting.
• Monitoring: Telemetry monitoring for all 23 beds. House-wide monitor techs read and interpret strips, so RNs are not required to read them.
• Titratable drips: None. RNs are not required to titrate drips.
• Patient types: Neurological, medical, surgical, and cardiovascular conditions, including CVA, TIA, syncope, encephalopathy, altered mental status, brain mass, aspiration pneumonia, PEG tube complications, angina, and chest pain. Also includes overflow from the Adult Medical Specialty Unit.

Schedule and Assignment

• Shifts: 7a-7:30p and 7p-7:30a (12-hour shifts)
• Self-scheduling: Available. The manager works with travelers on scheduling needs when possible, depending on organizational needs.
• Weekends: Every other weekend (days: Saturday/Sunday; nights: Friday/Saturday)
• Holidays: Every other holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day)
• Call or standby: None
• Call-off policy: 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty
• Float: To any unit in the hospital except OB, OR, and ED
• Orientation: 1-2 twelve-hour night shifts

• Local placements: Accepted for clinicians with permanent addresses within a 50-mile radius
• Dress code: Any color professional scrubs (not provided), closed-toe shoes, no hoodies, no artificial nails or nail alterations
