RN Stepdown (8 Southeast)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia Unit: 8 Southeast (Stepdown), 32 beds Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, 12 hours per shift, 48 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• ACLS and BLS certifications
• Strong med-surg stepdown experience
• Ability to titrate drips and read cardiac strips
• COVID-19 vaccination required. Medical or religious exemptions are possible through an exemption form, which should be submitted as soon as possible because it requires council approval.
• Not eligible if the driver's license address is within 50 miles of the facility
• Not eligible if previously employed as permanent staff there within the last 2 years
• Not eligible if previously worked there as a traveler for a full year within the last 2 years

Patient Population and Acuity

• Common diagnoses: post-surgical thoracic and medicine patients
• Ratios: 1:3 for stepdown assignments; 1:4 for combo assignments (2 stepdown and 2 floor patients, or 3 stepdown and 1 floor)
• Common titratable or set-rate drips: Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, nitroglycerin, esmolol, heparin, and Lasix (no vasopressors)
• Titration is performed under specific parameters with orders placed by the MD.
• No ventilators. Patients may be on BiPAP or have tracheostomies.
• RNs interpret and chart patient rhythms with their assessments every 4 hours or more often when titrating medications. Centralized telemetry interprets and places EKG strips in the charts.

Staffing and Support

• 1 charge nurse and 3 house supervisors in-house
• 3-4 CNAs per shift

Schedule and Expectations

• Weekends: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Sat, Sun, Sat)
• Holidays: Travelers must work holidays if needed.
• Call or standby: None
• Floating: Very rare
• Scrub color: Royal blue
• Orientation: 3 shifts of unit orientation
