Acute Rehab Unit RN

Overview

• Location: Peoria, Illinois
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights (7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.); 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Local placements: Accepted for clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles

Unit Details

• Unit: Acute Rehab Unit, 29 beds
• Ratios: 5:1 days, 6:1 nights
• Nurse aides: 1:9 to 1:10 ratio
• Therapies on unit: PT, OT, and ST
• Charge nurses: None; house supervisors only

Required Qualifications

• Certifications: BLS (AHA)
• Licensure: Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• Clinical skills: Strong neuro skills (must have)
• Team conferences: RNs are required to attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab.
• Drug screen: Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus)

Patient Population and Clinical Practice

• Common patient types: Neuro, neurosurgery, amputations, multi-trauma, cardiac, and complex medical (trachs, no vents)
• Drips: RNs are not required to titrate drips. The only common titratable or set-rate drip is heparin.
• Telemetry: Telemetry patients may be present, but they are not monitored by RNs. Tele packs are used.
• Respiratory equipment: CPAP and BiPAP are used only at night for sleep apnea. Nasal cannula and high-flow cannula are permitted, but heated high-flow is not.

Scheduling

• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Holiday rotation, every other holiday
• Call or standby: Not required
• Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks, with no penalty or need to pay for the shift

Floating

• Float units: LTAC and med-surg
• Restriction: Will not float to HAU unless trained

Orientation

• Length: 12 non-billable hours
• Format: 2 days of classroom orientation, followed by 2 to 3 days or nights with a preceptor
• Training: Facility-specific documentation and QRP training

Dress Code

• Any color scrubs; no t-shirts unless approved
