POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse coordinates and performs a variety of nursing care procedures for patients/residents, requiring professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments and the ability to work independently in completing assignments. Guidelines include physician’s orders; standards of care, nursing policies and procedures manuals, hospital policies, long term care policies, nursing duties include support to individuals of all ages and their families.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Supervise the total nursing activities for all patients/residents during your working hours assuring patient/resident safety.
2. Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to assure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the patients/residents.
3. Assist in developing and maintaining nursing objectives and standards.
4. Assist in developing, implementing and coordinating department policies and procedures, resident/patient care plans, nursing procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc.
5. Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents/patients, visitors, family members, etc., as necessary.
6. Ensure that each patient’s/resident’s right to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, is followed by the appropriate personnel.
7. Assure that patients/residents have a clean, safe, orderly and comfortable environment. Report needs to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)/Director of Nursing (DON).
8. Assure that established infection control procedures and isolation techniques are followed at all times.
9. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and a positive environment.
10. Assist in the training of department personnel and make recommendations to the CNO/DON concerning training.
11. Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting to the CNO/DON.
12. Assist in evaluating and assisting medical, social, psychological, spiritual, restorative and rehabilitative care plans, as well as instructions in self-help.
13. Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent patient/resident care information to assure the patients’/residents’ rights are protected.
14. Evaluate emergencies and determine emergency measures to be used.
15. Make independent decisions regarding nursing care.
16. Complete required record keeping forms on patient/resident admission, discharge, transfer, etc.
17. Assure that all nurses’ notes are informative and descriptive of the nursing care provided and of the patient’s response to the care.
18. Notify physician of accidents and fill out and complete accident/incident report forms.
19. Assure that a stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., is maintained at the adequate levels at all times. Report needs to the CNO/DON, or Purchasing Agent.
20. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved.
21. Give and receive nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift work hours.
22. Receive verbal orders from physicians and chart on the physician’s order sheet or the electronic medical record.
23. Transcribe physician’s orders to the electronic documentation system, lab slips, MAR, dietary requisitions, etc.
24. Make out work requisitions for unsafe conditions or equipment repairs.
25. Observes, records, and reports to physician patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
26. Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed.
