The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients in compliance with licensure standards. This role involves collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to contribute to patient goal development, care planning, and identifying barriers to discharge. The therapist provides patient-centered care and ensures education for the patient and family on treatment procedures, assistive devices, home programs, and other relevant health topics.

Key Responsibilities

• Select and perform evaluation and treatment methods appropriate to the patient's age, diagnosis, symptoms, and physician orders; document according to chart and review standards.
• Orient patients, families, and/or other relevant parties regarding the purpose and procedures of the therapy evaluation and treatment, including providing appropriate patient education and family teaching related to their needs.
• Coordinate treatment schedules with various disciplines using established scheduling procedures.
• Monitor program effectiveness and outcomes, and initiate the development of new programs when necessary.
• Perform pain assessments and take action according to standard operating procedures.
• Obtain and document all required and pertinent patient information, including precautions, orders, and initial care plans appropriately.
• Participate in the interdisciplinary team for the development and accurate documentation of discharge plans.
• Identify significant changes in a patient’s condition and take appropriate actions, ensuring accurate reporting, staffing consultations, and documentation.
• Provide clinical supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants collaboratively, following state licensure and care delivery standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned or as needed to meet departmental and organizational needs.

Qualifications

• Occupational Therapist Licensure from the appropriate state board prior to start date.
• Occupational Therapist Registered/Licensed (OTR/L) certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) prior to start date.
• Current driver's license with an acceptable driving record, valid prior to start date.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) prior to start date.
• Consideration given to new graduates; however, 2+ years of experience is preferred, with both inpatient and outpatient experiences required.
