Job Description

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing advanced echocardiograms, including 2-dimensional, color Doppler, and continuous Doppler studies. This role requires a profound understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology to accurately interpret and analyze test results.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform echocardiograms, including stress and dobutamine echocardiograms.
• Utilize non-imaging continuous Doppler techniques to diagnose and image cardiac abnormalities.
• Diagnose various cardiac conditions, including:
• Wall motion abnormalities
• Left ventricular regional wall abnormalities
• Pericardial and pleural effusions
• Connections of stenotic and regurgitant lesions
• Congenital abnormalities
• Review and interpret test results, immediately notifying the referring physician or house officer of preliminary findings.
• Examine patient charts to gather relevant clinical history for accurate testing and interpretation.
• Explain procedures to patients and ensure proper positioning for cardiac ultrasound examinations.
• Conduct multiple portable studies daily, requiring efficient mobilization of ultrasound equipment.
• Accurately record and review all test results, preparing detailed reports.
• Maintain technical instruments to ensure the reliability and accuracy of reported results.
• Ensure testing rooms are kept clean and orderly, managing supplies and cleaning equipment as necessary.

Qualifications

• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Proficient in all phases of echocardiography.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills with patients and medical staff.

This position plays a critical role in the diagnosis and management of cardiac conditions, contributing to the overall healthcare team.
