Certification and Licenses Required

• A.R.D.M.S./CCI registered or registry eligible or comparable national accreditation
• State of New Mexico Echo Sonographer License
• BLS certification issued through American Heart Association

Position Summary

The Echo Sonographer is responsible for performing diagnostic echocardiograms on adult and pediatric patients. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency and collaboration with various departments within the healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Execute technically proficient 2D, M-mode, and Doppler cardiac examinations.
• Coordinate activities with other hospital departments including scheduling exams and transporting patients.
• Assist cardiologists in exam dictation and preparing necessary measurements.
• Manage the delivery, pickup, and distribution of dictations in a timely manner.
• Attend to patients' needs during exams and report any changes in their condition to the supervising physician or nurse.
• Order necessary echo supplies and maintain a clean and organized exam room environment.
• Log patient exams and maintain accurate patient records within the department.
• Participate in performance improvement activities at various organizational levels.
• Maintain equipment quality control and coordinate necessary repair services.
• Stay current with advances in echocardiography practices and seek mentorship from cardiologists.
• Assist with additional cardiac procedures as required.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a two-year allied health education program preferred.
• Preferred experience of at least two years in performing echocardiograms.

Work Schedule
