Dental Hygienist

Job Description Summary

This position performs routine dental prophylaxis, participates in patient education, and trains dental hygiene students with minimal supervision. Staff members are expected to uphold values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform oral prophylaxis, including the removal of hard and soft deposits and stains from the surfaces of teeth, and polishing all tooth surfaces.
  • Apply topical fluoride to teeth.
  • Expose and develop radiographs.
  • Provide oral hygiene instruction and counseling to patients.
  • Offer nutrition and dietary counseling.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
  • Review patient medical and dental health history.
  • Measure and record patient blood pressure.
  • Chart dental diseases.
  • Utilize electronic systems for charting and charge entry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's degree in Dental Hygiene.
  • Experience: No experience required; 1 year of experience preferred.

Required Licensure/Certification

  • Registered Dental Hygienist in South Carolina.

Work Schedule

The work schedule consists of 39 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with shifts starting at 7:30 AM and ending at 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Fridays. Major holidays are observed, resulting in office closures.
