Qualifications

• Education: Master's Degree from an accredited physical therapy program
• Experience: Experience working directly with patients in a long-term care or hospital setting
• Licenses/Certifications: Current Physical Therapist state license, Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

Position Summary

A Physical Therapist plans and executes rehabilitation programs to assist patients in regaining physical function following an accident or surgery. The role may also involve alleviating pain for patients with degenerative conditions or terminal diseases. Interventions include a combination of physical activity, reflexology, massage, and manipulation of muscles and skeletons. The Physical Therapist collaborates with other therapists to achieve optimal patient outcomes, with a focus on outpatient care.

Responsibilities

• Consult with patients to assess their physical condition and symptoms.
• Diagnose movement dysfunctions through observation and patient interaction.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings.
• Coach patients on therapeutic exercises and stretches to enhance recovery.
• Utilize hands-on therapy techniques, such as massage, to reduce pain and promote healing.
• Maintain detailed records of patient conditions, treatment plans, and progress.
• Communicate patient progress and current status to appropriate parties, including family members and healthcare providers.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Professional Communication

• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations.
• Engage with patients and families from diverse sociocultural backgrounds with sensitivity and care.
• Provide relevant information to patients and families to alleviate anxiety.
• Foster professional relationships with healthcare team members to share important patient information.
• Communicate effectively via telephone and other communication devices.
• Report security concerns to appropriate supervisors.

Teamwork

• Accept assignments based on priorities and unit needs.
• Collaborate closely with other care providers to complete tasks and assist with clinical duties.
• Report on patient conditions to physicians, nurses, and other staff as necessary.
• Utilize problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to maintain effective working relationships.
• Punctually report to work as scheduled.

Professional Development

• Participate in in-service training, continuing education, and departmental meetings.
• Assist in the annual performance reviews of peers as requested.
• Identify and respond to opportunities for improving patient care and service delivery.

Shift Information

Shifts are typically 8 or 9 hours per day, 4 days per week. Holiday coverage may be required.

Minimum Years of Experience

Less than 1 year of experience is required.
