Job Title: Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN)
Job Summary:A Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN) specializes in providing care to patients with mental health disorders, emotional challenges, and behavioral issues. This role involves assessing, planning, and implementing care for patients in inpatient or outpatient psychiatric settings, promoting mental wellness, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment and Care:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including evaluating emotional, cognitive, and behavioral functioning.
- Develop individualized care plans based on patient needs, in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Administer medications and monitor for side effects, documenting responses appropriately.

Crisis Intervention:
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies, such as suicidal ideation, aggressive behavior, or severe anxiety.
- Implement de-escalation techniques and therapeutic interventions to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Coordinate with the crisis response team when necessary.

Therapeutic Communication and Support:
- Establish trusting relationships with patients to facilitate open communication.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions or educational workshops on mental health topics, as applicable.

Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to care.
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring their rights and needs are respected.
- Assist in discharge planning, connecting patients with community resources or outpatient services.

Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain a safe environment by following protocols for high-risk patients, including suicide precautions and restraint use.
- Document patient care accurately and in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Stay current on best practices in psychiatric nursing and maintain knowledge of mental health laws.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the practicing state.
- Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (RN-BC) preferred.
