Description
We are seeking an experienced Oncology Registered Nurse to join our medical-surgical unit. The ideal candidate will provide compassionate care to oncology patients while adhering to the highest standards of nursing practice.
Job Details
- Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Required Experience: 1 year experience required with at least 1 travel assignment
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Rotate in with staff
- Orientation: 3 days of unit-specific orientation
Qualifications
- Certifications: Current BLS (AHA) certification required; NIHSS preferred
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year in oncology nursing; ONS certification preferred for chemotherapy administration (2 years of experience required for ONS)
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Medical Surgical (Med Surg)
- Bed Capacity: 29 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5, with occasional 1:6
- Common Diagnoses: Acute oncology symptoms, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, sickle cell crisis, hematology, medical overflow, end-of-life care
Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the oncology unit
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Monitor and record patient vital signs and medical histories
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans
- Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care
- Participate in unit activities and quality improvement initiatives

- Telemetry: Central monitoring available; reading strips is not a requirement
- Nurse Aides: Yes, typically 3 aides available per day
- Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
- Floating: Rarely to medical acute units
