About the Position

This position is for a Histology Technician working daytime shifts, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with occasional holiday and weekend rotation requirements. The role includes on-call coverage once every two months on weekends.

Responsibilities

The Histology Technician will be responsible for:

• Performing routine and complex histologic procedures, including processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, as well as immunohistochemistry.
• Conducting quality control on completed slides.
• Identifying potential issues affecting diagnosis and results.
• Recording observations from tests and documenting maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab.
• Complying with established laboratory policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in histology.
• Experience with Epic Beaker is required.
• BLS certification is mandatory.
• HT(ASCP) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) is also required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology, or another related scientific discipline is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stains is preferred.

Additional Information

This position is based on a teaching hospital environment, which is Magnet recognized and provides Level 1 Trauma services. Parking is available, with night and weekend access at a nominal fee for a parking pass.

Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season, all employees may be assigned to emergency response teams, and any new assignments during the hurricane season should be confirmed cautiously. Hurricane season runs from June through November, with peak activity in August and September.
