Job Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering direct patient care across three key areas within surgical services: Pre-operative, Operating Room (OR)/Circulator, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The RN will function as the primary caregiver and must possess the capability to work effectively in all three areas.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient assessments and document care provided.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
- Coordinate patient transfers and recover patients in the PACU.
- Circulate surgical cases and assist in operating procedures.
- Process instruments and equipment in the central sterilization area.
- Prepare patients for surgery and provide patient education.
- Maintain adherence to infection control standards and departmental policies.
- Follow national standards established by IAHCSMM, AORN, ASGE, and ASPAN.
Accountability:
Reports directly to the Surgical Services Manager and/or their designee.
Special Demands:
- Mental: Ability to perform effectively in high-stress situations and interact positively with diverse individuals.
- Physical: Must be capable of standing for prolonged periods, walking, and lifting heavy objects. There is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
Qualifications:
- Education: RN graduate with current licensure in the state of practice.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in Pre-op, OR/Circulator, and PACU is preferred.
- Skills: ACLS certification is required; CNOR and scrub experience are preferred.
Shift Information:
Full-time position with a 40-hour work week. General hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional late days to accommodate surgical case loads. Rotational call is required, including weekends and holidays.
