Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) who is comfortable in both inpatient and Psychiatric Emergency Department settings. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including a weekend requirement of every other weekend. The nurse will float between two inpatient psychiatric units.
Responsibilities
- Provide care for patients with various psychological conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and substance use issues.
- Implement treatment plans and document patient progress accurately.
- Administer medications and manage medication delivery methods.
- Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors.
- Precept new nurses during their orientation.
- Attend monthly Unit-based Aggressive Patient Management training as required.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license with a minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health.
- Completion of at least one travel assignment is required.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) preferred.
- Experience in a 1:6 patient care ratio, with a daytime staffing ratio of 1:1.
Skills Required
- Proficient in the care of patients with conditions such as bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and PTSD.
- Ability to manage aggressive behaviors and implement seclusion protocols when necessary.
- Skilled in behavior management techniques and psychoeducation.
- Strong communication skills for interpreting and relaying lab values and patient status.
- IV initiation and maintenance, along with blood glucose monitoring.
Patient Demographics
Experience with a diverse patient population, including those with:
- Alcohol and drug abuse issues
- Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis
- History of self-harm or suicidal behavior
- Trauma, including physical or sexual abuse cases
Scrubs are not provided, and the required color is navy.
