Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is a key clinical practitioner responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care tailored to the specific age and needs of the patient population on assigned units. The nurse ensures quality care is provided safely and efficiently while aligning with the unit’s standards of care. The role demands a commitment to the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization, and requires quality performance and effective interaction with staff, physicians, patients, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document initial assessments while establishing care priorities based on patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
  • Systematically re-assess patients to identify progress and trends that require intervention.
  • Develop and implement a measurable individualized plan of care for each patient, adhering to Nursing Standards of Care.
  • Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on fact interpretation and evaluations of patient outcomes; modify care plans as needed.
  • Engage in patient and family health education and discharge planning.
  • Deliver timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and document these actions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care.
  • Perform various Point of Care testing procedures.

Staff Responsibilities

  • Utilize effective communication strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to ensure completion of required patient care support activities.
  • Coordinate team assignments and adjust based on patient and unit needs while following up on delegated tasks for quality assurance.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff and students.
  • Act as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff, providing prompt and courteous service.
  • Promote a positive work environment by demonstrating professionalism and a supportive attitude among unit staff.
  • Remain open and responsive to new ideas and participate in initiatives for improving organizational performance.
  • Collaborate with others to achieve unit and organizational goals.

Customer Relations

  • Exhibit behaviors that foster high levels of patient satisfaction and respect for patients' rights and needs.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills that promote teamwork and harmony.
  • Maintain the integrity and positive image of the organization through professional behavior.
  • Support the organization’s mission and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Accurately interpret and communicate Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in the work environment or schedule.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, even during stressful situations.
  • Take responsibility for professional growth and development.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular attendance and communicate any absences in advance.

Requirements

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited program for Registered Nursing.

Certification/Licenses

  • Current New Mexico RN license or current Compact state license.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • ACLS Certification required.

Skills

  • Current knowledge and skills relevant to the specific age/type of patient population served.
  • Understanding and sensitivity towards patients’ rights in the delivery of care.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, tailored to the developmental age of patients.

Work Schedule

Full-time position, working 4 days a week for 10 hours per shift.
