Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care that aligns with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care by utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Participates in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
- Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials that are relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Seeks guidance for revising the plan of care as needed.
- Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care evaluation.
- Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex needs, considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required by the patient care plan.
- Adheres to healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in providing care.
- Organizes and prioritizes care according to the needs of patients and families.
- Consults appropriate resources in a timely manner for complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
- Leadership:
- Develops professional growth goals with assistance or minimizes limitations.
- Works towards achieving goals within set timeframes or renegotiates with supervisors as necessary.
- Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively utilizes communication systems.
- Contributes to promoting cost-effective care.
- Provides constructive feedback to co-workers.
- Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines that impact the healthcare environment.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment for all patients and staff.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes and analyzes data from complex situations to prioritize patient care.
- Considers physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful information for communication.
- Anticipates and assesses discharge needs for patients and their families.
- Develops relationships with families that empower them to advocate effectively for the patient and their own needs.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care.
- Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Employs comprehensive communication strategies to convey plans.
- Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates prioritization skills for tasks involving patients with complex problems.
- Research:
- Reviews journals with relevant studies or articles applicable to practice.
- Shares ideas and questions with staff for assessing applicability.
Required Skills & Experience
- One (1) year of nursing experience.
Education
- Required:
- Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Preferred:
- BSN or MSN from
