Description
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical/Surgical Telemetry Float Team. This position primarily involves working within the Emergency Department Holding unit, providing support to patients awaiting inpatient beds. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in medical/surgical nursing and be capable of managing a diverse patient population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult patients with varying medical and surgical diagnoses.
- Float between different units, including the Emergency Department and Med-Surg areas, as required.
- Monitor and manage telemetry patients, interpreting dysrhythmias and administering relevant treatments.
- Conduct patient assessments and assist with diagnostic tests, treatment, and ongoing care.
- Administer medications and IV therapy, including blood products and specialty infusion protocols.
- Manage patients with colostomy bags, feeding tubes, and renal failure.
- Utilize isolation precautions and provide care for patients with complex needs.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare teams and participate in rapid response situations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with a focus on MS/Tele and critical care.
- Active RN license and current certifications in BLS and ACLS.
- Experience in telemetry monitoring and familiarity with rapid response teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in NIHSS and experience with IV insulin protocols.
- Knowledge of pre/post hemodialysis management and central line blood draw.
- Experience in managing spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and orthopedic trauma cases.
- Skills in wound care and use of wound vacs are advantageous.
Job Details:
- Patient Ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU level patients.
- Shift: Night shifts available, with a commitment of 36 or 48 hours per week.
- Mandatory weekend coverage is required every other weekend.
- Participation in storm and hurricane response teams may be necessary during emergencies.
- Orientation for this position will be 12 hours.
Note: Candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to the start of the assignment. This position entails working with a mixed unit with high-acuity patients, and all candidates will be interviewed.
