Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care by utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  • Participates in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
  • Attends educational programs based on identified needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
  • Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
  • Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care evaluation.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in managing patients with complex issues, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required for patient care plans.
  • Adheres to healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex patient care issues and discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • With assistance, develops professional growth goals or strategies to minimize limitations.
  • Achieves goals within identified timelines or renegotiates with supervisors.
  • Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Effectively utilizes communication systems.
  • Contributes to promoting cost-effective care and provides feedback to coworkers.
  • Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines impacting the healthcare environment.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes and synthesizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
  • Considers physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
  • Anticipates discharge needs for individual patients and families.
  • Builds relationships with families, empowering them to advocate for their patients.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
  • Employs a full range of communication strategies for effective planning.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs.
• Research:
  • Engages with current journals and articles applicable to nursing practice.
  • Presents ideas and questions to staff for collective assessment of applicability.

Required Skills & Experience

• One (1) year of nursing experience.

Education

• Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Certifications & Licensure

• Required: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC).
