Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Intermediate Care Team. The ideal candidate will possess the experience and skills necessary to provide exceptional care to our patients with neurological conditions and a range of medical complexities. This role requires a strong emphasis on teamwork, adherence to policies, and a commitment to excellence in patient interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide quality nursing care to patients in the Neuro Intermediate Care Unit.
- Ability to titrate medications, including Levophed and insulin drips.
- Monitor and interpret cardiovascular rhythms, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to emergency situations.
- Participate in the care and management of various medical and neurological conditions, including aneurysms, craniotomies, CVAs, and traumatic brain injuries.
- Utilize skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and medication administration, including thrombolytic agents and PCA.
- Provide respiratory care and manage ventilated patients, including the use of BiPAP/CPAP and care of chest tubes.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and provide wound care as necessary.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required, with a focus on Neuro or Intermediate Care preferred.
- Experience working in step-down, telemetry, or similar units.
- Must have current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
- Ability to interpret EKGs and perform rapid response procedures.
- Knowledge of IV insulin protocols, feeding tube management, and bladder irrigation techniques.
- Proficient in the use of Epic electronic health record system.
Shift Details
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15).
- Floating to other intermediate care areas may be required as needed.
- Minimum requirement of three weekend shifts every six weeks.
Work Environment
The registered nurse will work in a dynamic team environment focused on delivering specialized care to an intermediate population that includes both neurological and medical patients.
Orientation and Training
- 32 hours of unit orientation, including an 8-hour computer class and two shifts on the unit after completing initial hospital orientation.
- Scrubs are not provided; team members should wear a combination of navy blue and white scrubs.
Additional Information
Candidates are required to demonstrate a teamwork approach and meet professional behavior expectations at all times. Candidates must adhere to strict policies regarding call-offs. EKG testing is mandatory prior to starting in this specialty.
