Position Summary

Registered Nurses (RNs) are essential in promoting health and preventing illness. This role focuses on providing professional nursing care to patients who are acutely ill, convalescing, or chronically ill, as directed by the medical staff. Medical-Surgical nurses, in particular, play a critical role in the overall care of patients. They administer medications under physician supervision and maintain accurate records of symptoms and patient progress. Additionally, they oversee licensed practical nurses (LPNs), nursing assistants (CNAs), and nursing students.

Essential Job Duties

• Assess patients and perform nursing care responsibilities that address the specific needs of patients based on their age and diagnosis.
• Communicate effectively with providers, charge nurses, and care team members regarding any changes in a patient’s clinical condition, including diagnostic study results and symptoms.
• Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient conditions or treatment responses.
• Perform general nursing duties across all departments with appropriate supervision.
• Follow the Five Medication Rights to minimize the risk of medication errors.
• Develop a patient teaching plan based on identified learning needs and assess the effectiveness of the provided education, engaging family or caregivers as appropriate.
• Interact with patients, families, colleagues, and providers with respect, dignity, and empathy.
• Recognize and address the psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families or caregivers.
• Demonstrate understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring the provision of age-appropriate care.
• Document patient care in accordance with established standards and policies.
• Participate in and support the orientation of new personnel and attend relevant in-services.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Shift Information

Day shifts from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm; 12-hour shifts with rotating days. Holiday coverage is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
• Current certifications in ACLS and BLS/BCLS.
